As the Celtic Family bids farewell to their midfielder Aaron Mooy, manager Brendan Rodgers expressed both respect and regret in response to the player’s decision to retire.

Mooy, whose contribution to the Bhoys’ success over the past season was immeasurable, will be missed on the pitch, both at Celtic Park and on the international stage.
He came in last summer and had many people doubting him, with some fans expressing their discontent with the signing. Failing to make too much of an impact before the World Cup break, he came back flying and was the most on-form midfielder in Scotland for an eight-week period.
However, after some injury concerns at the back end of last season, he just couldn’t keep up and found himself struggling to get a place in the team.
Mooy’s retirement was confirmed on Friday morning, with Celtic putting a tweet out early in the morning.
Rodgers, understanding the gravity of Mooy’s decision, stated: [Celtic FC]
“Clearly we are disappointed that Aaron will be retiring, however, it is something we absolutely respect. He has done so much in the game for a number of clubs and for his country and he deserves to make this decision on his own terms.
“I am delighted for Aaron that he has gone out on a real high after making such a telling contribution to Celtic last season and that, together with all his other achievements, should be a real source of pride to him.
“Club football and the international game will miss him dearly, but on behalf of everyone at Celtic I send Aaron and his family our heartfelt best wishes for the future.”
