£3.8m Striker Backed for Celtic Move After Shut Down

It’s a strange one but it appears Football Insider like to roll out a former Ibrox player to talk about Celtic on a regular basis.

Alan Hutton is retired now but started out his career in Glasgow before heading down south.

He’s asked Celtic questions on a regular basis by FI, happy to give his opinion in the club and it’s transfer dealings or potential transfer dealings.

This week, after Charlie Austin admitted he’d jump at the chance to come to Scotland — Hutton believes the striker could be a hit with Celtic.

“I think he’s an excellent player, I’ve played against him many times and he’s really good at what he does,” Hutton told  Football Insider.

“Whether it’ll depend on Edouard leaves or if the striker situation at Celtic, it could be an option. It’s definitely one that’s not going to break the bank so it could be an option.

“Whether he would come up and be a regular starter, I’m not so sure but I think as an option in your squad, he’d definitely be good to have. He’s got great experience, played at high levels and scored goals.

“I don’t think you can ever turn your nose up at a player like that. I do see it being an option for Lennon.”

The depressing thought of selling Odsonne Edouard and bringing in Charlie Austin is not something many fans would want to hypothetically entertain.

Celtic have four strikers at the moment so they’re full to capacity when football gets back going.

Maybe Bayo will be moved on to leave space for a new man to fight for his place but considering the wages Austin can get down south — it would not be worth his while.

Four or five years ago — it would have been an interesting deal, now, not so much.

West Brom paid £3.8m for the frontman from Southampton back in 2019 (Transfermarkt) and he has another year to run in his contract.
