Giakoumakis Seals Celtic Exit; Report

It’s being reported in the Greek press that Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis has agreed terms with MLS side Atlanta and will shortly leave the club for good.

Prominent Greek journalist Johnny Georgopoulos has been has been following the story closely and revealed an exclusive on Monday evening. The report revealed Giakoumakis has accepted terms with Atlanta and Celtic have thrashed out a fee of £3.5m plus £800k of add-ons to let the player go.

The Greek frontman joined 18-months ago from Venlo. After an injury laden start to his Parkhead career, the Greek striker sprung into action in the second half of last season and helped Celtic to a tile not many thought was possible.

In recent times, Giak has been used sparingly by manager Ange Postecoglou. Coming in as a second half substitute in many games with the manager favouring Japanese striker Kyogo who has been on fire this season.

A mixture of lack of game time and money were the two driving factors behind Giorgos wanting to leave in January. The rumours have been rife since the World Cup.

Earlier this week, it was reported he had completed a medical to join Japanese side Urawa. It’s thought the international striker wasn’t keen on the move and was hoping Atlanta would come back in with a bid — which they have.
